William P. “Bill” Thress, 91, of Lake Wales passed away Friday, January 26, 2018 at his home.
He was born March 13, 1926 in Columbus, Ohio to the late William and Hazel Thress; he moved from Ohio to Tampa, where he lived for 20 years, before coming to Lake Wales in 1998. In his early career, he was a train engineer for the C&O Railroad, was a self-employed cabinet maker for most of his career. He was the former co-owner of “On the Go Café” in Nalcrest. He and his wife Dorothy own Bill’s café in downtown Lake Wales and On the Go Café east of town. Bill was of the Baptist faith, served in the U.S. Coast Guard, he enjoyed playing horseshoes at Nalcrest, golfing, fishing, singing karaoke and was an Ohio State fan., he also enjoyed shooting pool at the Krazy Korner Pub in Tampa.
He was preceded in death his first wife, Donna J. Thress and second wife, Geraldine Lewis.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Dorothy M. Thress; daughters, Margaret “Maggie” Nichols husband Rick of Lake Wales, Diana Watson husband Todd of Cairo, GA; sons, William P. “Bill” Thress III wife Vernetta of Lake Wales, Albert “Al” Jordan wife Kim of Cairo, GA; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Sunday, January 28, 2018 at Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Bill Redmon officiating.
