Donald Leo Harris, 89

Donald Leo Harris died Sunday, October 15, 2017 following a lengthy illness.

Don is survived by his wife of 67 years; Susan James, Lake Wales, Florida; daughter Kathryn (Lewis) Hartley of Babson Park, Florida; sons Donald J of Atlanta, Georgia; Mark A. of Atlanta, Georgia and Scott D. (Marianne) of Cumming, Georgia. Grandchildren; Addy, Harris, MaKay, Carlisle, Rett, Mark, Alan, Holt, Leslie, Wells, Sarah and Emily. Great grandchildren, Kate, Davis, Lake, Liz, Noah and Luke. He is preceded in death by his father, James, mother, Martha and older brother Paul F. Harris.
Don was born on January 30, 1928 in Middlebourne, West Virginia to James William and Martha Carpenter Harris. He graduated from Follansbee High School, Follansbee, West Virginia and Bethany College, Bethany, West Virginia. He went on to earn a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering. He served in World War II Calvary Division and married Susan Delores James on September 14, 1951.
A family graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia. The Reverend Lee Lowery of Saint Pauls Episcopal Church, Albany, Georgia will officiate the ceremony. In Lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Good Shepherd Hospice (105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, Florida 33823).
