He was born on March 17, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Claude Benjamin and Ethel (Courtney) Carruthers and he has been a resident of this area since 1990 moving here from Hopatcong, New Jersey. Gerald was a retired Electrician.

Survivors include his sisters — Diane, Phyllis, Gail and Jean; his former wife, Peggy and his children John, Bob and Laura and his grandchildren, Rachel, Matt, Jillian, Jake, Courtney, Maggie and Joe.
