He was born November 5, 1940 in Alturas to the late Herbert and Gloria Underwood; he has been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a retired gardener for Bok Tower Gardens. He was extremely meticulous and proud about grounds keeping. Gerald was a dedicated member of the Golfview Church of God in Lake Wales and a volunteer fireman for the Lake Wales Fire Department. Starting in 1967, Gerald was passionately dedicated to his wife, she was his life.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Wesley Underwood and Vernon Underwood. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Thelma Underwood; daughter, Judith Bowden of Auburndale; step-daughter, Linda B. Tramell of Lake Wales; step-son, James E. Bryan of Lake Wales; brother, Wayne Underwood of Sarasota; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Golfview Church of God with Rev. Denny Cothern and Rev. Tony Faulkner officiating.
