Mrs. Helen Bernice Putman of Indian Lake Estates died of complications resulting from a fall on June 11, 2018, at the Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center. She was 98.
Bernice was born in Calamus, Iowa on May 5, 1920, was active in sports, studied and became a beautician.
She married Robert Putman, raised a family and assisted business pursuits of her marketing executive husband in positions won in Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Ohio and New York. She also provided bookkeeping assistance for his businesses.
Bernice came to Indian Lake Estates from Albert Lea, Minnesota with her husband in 1989. Robert Dahl
Putman passed away on April 13, 2003, and Bernice lived with dignity and independence for fifteen added, good and contented, active years. She was winning golf tournaments well into her 70’s and continued to inspire those who knew her, for all of her days. She had a close circle of friends and family that valued her dry wit and wisdom, as well as her inspirational, fierce sense of independence, in mind and action. She attended Indian Lake Estates Methodist Church.
Bernice is survived by her daughter, Susan Putman Moran of Evanston, IL, Marc Putman, son of Hudson, WI, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A family memorial will be held in Hazelton, IA, at a later date.
