Patrick’s Obituary

Patrick Joseph Freeman, 82, of Haines City, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born on August 23, 1937 in Haverstraw, New York to William and Agnes Lynch-Freeman. Patrick proudly served the United States Marine Corp for 6 years serving in French Morocco and the Korean Crisis for 2 enlistments, ending with a Lance Corporal rank. He attended Haverstraw School District in Rockland County, where he received his Associate Degree in Police Science. Patrick worked in law enforcement for 22 years for both the Bear Mountain Police Department and the Haverstraw Police Department in Rockland County, New York. He was awarded citations of bravery many times from the Elks Club, Knights of Columbus and PBA of Rockland County citing heroism. He retired in 1979 from the Police Department and moved to Florida in 1989 from Haverstraw, he was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Haines City, Florida.

During his life time Mr. Freeman was one of the founding fathers of Haverstraw Brick Museum in Haverstraw, New York, he was a true local historian. Many articles of his endeavors of finding history in the ashes of time along the beautiful Hudson River were written about him. In fact, his grandfather, Patrick Freeman, had his own brick yard along the Hudson River in Kingston, New York.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, John Freeman, William Freeman and Maureen Phillips. Patrick is survived by his wife, of 43 years, Maureen; children, Patrick Mark Freeman of Highland, New York, Robin Kocot of Winter Haven, Florida, Stanley Kocot of Florida, Kim Kocot of Winter Haven, Florida, Maureen Pata of Wellington, Florida, Crystal Lynn Cortez of Haines City, Florida; brother, Richard Freeman; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A Visitation will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. all at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, Florida, with Father Alfonso Cely officiating. Final resting place will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Haines City, Florida.
