MICHAEL’S OBITUARY

Michael “Spike” Szostak, of Winter Haven, Florida passed away on February 11, 2021 at his residence. He was 63.Michael was born on August 26, 1957 to Bernard and Dolores Molda Szostak in Chicago, Illinois and spent most of his life in the surrounding Chicago area. He retired in 2012 from Evanston Fire Department where he spent 26 years as a firefighter mostly with engine 21, where he was affectionately known as the “Chef” as he was the firehouse cook. Michael was a Chicago Cubs fan and loved to go to games with his daughter, a passion that started as a young man when he was a pitcher for his high school, Gordon Tech.  He also had a passion for fishing and loved to go to the Florida Keys to enjoy the food, as well as the ocean.Michael is survived by his daughter, Sarah E. Szostak of Davenport, Florida.  He was predeceased by his sister Catherine Nelson, his parents; and Sarah’s Mother, Susan C. Szostak.

Due to distance and the world in which we are living in, a celebration of life service will be held on March 1, 2021 at 6:00 pm. If you will please take a moment at that time, wherever you are, to share a memory, hoist a glass or say a prayer for “Spike” we will all be able to be together.
